Rodent Control in Seattle: Find It, Seal It, Keep It Out

Hearing scratching in the attic, finding droppings in the garage, or seeing a gnawed corner in the pantry? I'm Jay, owner of Bugnation. I find how rodents are getting in, close those routes, and remove what's already inside.

Why Rodents Move In Each Fall

Rats and mice are looking for warmth, food, and shelter, and as temperatures drop across the Puget Sound region a house offers all three. A mouse can pass through a gap about the size of a dime. A rat needs roughly a quarter-sized opening. Most homes have several gaps that fit.

Waiting rarely helps. A small population indoors grows quickly, and the damage adds up: chewed wiring, contaminated insulation, and droppings that carry health risks.

Signs You Have Rodents

  • Droppings along walls, in cabinets, or in the attic
  • Scratching or scurrying sounds at night, especially in walls and ceilings
  • Gnaw marks on wood, wiring, or food packaging
  • Greasy rub marks along baseboards and pipes
  • Nests made of shredded paper, insulation, or fabric
  • A dog or cat fixating on a wall or vent

What I Find in Seattle Homes: Earth-to-Wood Contact

Seattle has a wet climate, and that shapes where rodents get in. The most common entry point I find in Pacific Northwest homes is earth-to-wood contact: soil, mulch, or landscaping sitting against siding, trim, or foundation framing. Moisture softens the wood, and softened wood is easy for rodents to chew through. It also hides the damage from view.

  • Gaps around plumbing and utility lines where they enter the house
  • Crawl space vents with damaged or missing screens
  • Worn weatherstripping at garage doors
  • Roofline gaps, soffits, and loose fascia
  • Dryer and bathroom exhaust vents

How My Rodent Control Process Works

  1. 1Inspection. I examine the interior, attic, crawl space, and exterior, tracing activity back to the source. The inspection is $195.
  2. 2A written plan for your property. No two houses are alike, so I build a plan around what I actually find.
  3. 3Removal. Targeted trapping and baiting placed where the activity is, with attention to the safety of children and pets.
  4. 4Exclusion. Removing rodents without sealing entry points only invites the next group, so we seal the gaps I identified.
  5. 5Follow-up. I return to confirm the activity has stopped. Treatment is backed by a 45 to 60 day warranty, or for as long as you stay on a regular service plan.
